Lodi’s historic old-vine Zinfandel sites contribute the largest portion of this blend, along with fruit from Mendocino County and San Luis Obispo. Warm afternoons in Lodi enhance the berry flavors while fruit from the cooler coastal regions bring softer characteristics and balance. A dash of Petite Sirah adds a slight purple hue to the blend. In the bold tradition of 1000 Stories, Batch 87 was aged in traditional French and American oak barrels, with a portion of the wine finished in aged bourbon barrels before assembling the final blend.
THE WINE
1000 Stories Zinfandel is released in batches to reflect a unique mix of wine grape varieties, vineyards and bourbon barrels—no two batches are the same. Our Zinfandel Batch 87 is medium-bodied with a very refined, light tannin structure that makes for a pleasant, smooth finish. Zinfandel flavors of strawberry, raspberry, dark cherry and violet are complemented by notes of vanilla bean, coconut oil, caramel, white pepper and dry herbs – characteristics imparted over time in French and American oak and in aged bourbon barrels. Drink now or save for 3-5 years.

Batch 86 is a strong expression of several Zinfandel vineyards from warm and cool regions throughout California. Early in the aging process, about 40% of the blend spent time in bourbon barrels—fairly typical for 1000 Stories Zinfandel batches. But two months before bottling, winemaker Sebastian Donoso changed things up and put a small portion back in bourbon barrels. The remaining wine is aged in a combination of American and French oak barrels.
THE WINE
1000 Stories Zinfandel is released in batches to reflect the wine’s unique journey from the vineyard to the barrel and, ultimately, the glass. No two batches are the same. Our Zinfandel Batch 86 is bursting with red fruit aromas typical of Zinfandel – strawberry, raspberry and cherry fill the glass. Batch 86 spent more time aging in Bourbon barrels than most of our Zinfandels and it shows in the profile: sweet components like caramel, toffee and also some dry herb and spice notes are prominently displayed.
