THE CRAFT

Born in the spirit of innovation, 1,000 Stories wines takes a different approach to California’s renowned winemaking heritage. Our Chardonnay began its journey with quality wine grapes from California vineyards before being fermented and aged in American oak barrels. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation, giving it an opulent, round mouthfeel. Working with American oak sourced from eastern Minnesota, Winemaker Margaret Leonardi carefully selected barrels toasted with a gradual increase in temperature, achieving a medium toast. This toasting process yields a profile that accentuates the barrel’s flavors and sweetness and imparts characteristics unique to American oak ageing. Margaret expertly crafted the final blend to bring out the best characteristics from the 2021 vintage. The result is the perfect balance of classic Chardonnay and bold flavors that make 1000 Stories wines uniquely different.

THE WINE

This bold take on traditional California Chardonnay includes notes of yellow apple, marzipan and clove. Brilliant and pale yellow in color, the mouthfeel is creamy and round and gives a long-lasting finish. Our Chardonnay is crafted from vineyards around California, with a large portion coming from Monterey’s cool-climate Arroyo Seco region. The addition of American oak aging gives the wine its unique flavors of marshmallow, coconut oil and vanilla bean. Pair with grilled chicken, paella or creamy pastas.

THE WINE

Sauvignon Blanc vineyards throughout California—and especially cool-climate sites in Monterey County—delivered the variety’s classic profile of fresh fruit character and bright acidity in our inaugural 1000 Stories Sauvignon Blanc. The wine includes a touch of Viognier, which lends additional complexity to the wine, without overshadowing the vibrant character of the star varietal.

The wine was fermented in stainless steel and saw no oak contact to preserve its hallmark freshness. A small portion was fermented in concrete eggs, rounding out the mouthfeel and imparting a touch of minerality in the glass. Our 2022 Sauvignon Blanc balances stone fruit notes of white nectarine with the juicy citrus character of pomelo. Hints of fresh-cut grass are underscored by a backbone of minerality. The finish is crisp and bright, with excellent acidity.

THE JOURNEY

A portion of the wine was fermented in oak barrels, lending a creamy texture to the wine. Quintessential Chardonnay notes of pear and baked apple are layered over a thread of tropical fruit, courtesy of a touch of Viognier in the blend. In signature 1000 Stories fashion, this Chardonnay was aged in traditional French and American oak, with a portion finished in seasoned bourbon barrels before the final blend was assembled.

THE WINE

Our 2019 Chardonnay reflects the classic California style: fuller bodied, richly textured and brimming with lush fruit flavors. Fresh notes of pear, pineapple and peach dominate the palate, framed by a baked-apple richness and a creamy mouthfeel. Bourbon barrel aging weaves a warm thread of dried herbs and cedar in the glass, culminating in a vanilla-caramel finish.
